Attention: Ms. Erlene Mooney, Astronomy Search Committee
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Iowa State University has
an opening for a new faculty member in observational astronomy or instrumentation.
While we expect to make an appointment at the assistant professor level,
exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for a more senior
level position. The new faculty member will be expected to carry out a
vigorous program of research and to participate fully in the teaching program
in the department. Candidates at the assistant professor level are expected
to have a Ph.D. degree and demonstrated record of research accomplishments
normally achieved through postdoctoral experience. Candidates at more senior
levels must have a superior record in research, publications and funding.
All candidates should demonstrate promise for excellence in teaching at
undergraduate and graduate levels. The astrophysics program at Iowa State
consists of seven faculty members with research programs in stellar and
extragalactic astronomy and in gamma-ray astrophysics. This position is
open to candidates working in any subject area and in any wavelength range
of the electromagnetic spectrum, though preference may be given to those
whose research relates to ongoing efforts in the department.
Interested individuals should submit applications (including a cover
letter, curriculum vitae, and statements of research and teaching goals),
and request at least three letters of reference to be sent to Ms. Erlene
Mooney, at the address above. We will begin considering applications on
1 November 2002. Applications from women and
minorities are encouraged. AAE/EOE.
