The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida has a tenure-track
opening for an Assistant Professor starting at 2003. The position requires
a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate student supervision,
and the demonstrated ability to develop and conduct an independent program
of research. Present research activities in the department include studies
of solar system dynamics and dust, planet and star formation and evolution,
galaxy evolution and dynamics, active galaxies, and cosmology. In addition,
the department has a strong infrared instrumentation group whose current
activities include the development of infrared spectrometers and cameras
for Gemini North and South and the Gran Telescopio Carnarias (GTC) located
in the Canary Islands. The University is a newly inducted member of the
Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, a partner in the
10.4-meter GTC, and is developing a strong collaborative program with the
Instituto de Astrofisica de Carnarias. Interested applicants should submit
