The Department of Physics and Astronomy at George Mason University invites applications for two nine-month positions at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall of 2003. One position is for astronomy/astrophysics; the other position is open to physicists or astronomers. GMU is a young but growing Ph.D. granting university, with opportunities for collaboration among its many research units.

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D., a demonstrated potential for establishing a significant externally funded research program and be committed to excellence in education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preference will be given to those applicants whose research complements existing areas in the department. Candidates should forward a letter of application, curriculum vita, statement of research and teaching plans, and arrange for three letters of recommendation by 15 January 2003 to theFaculty Search Committee at the above address.

Hiring is dependent upon availability of funding.
