As part of an overall growth in astrophysics, the Physics Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in experimental or observational astrophysics beginning 1 July 2003 or later. The astrophysics faculty in the physics department carry out research in experimental cosmology, particle astrophysics, as well as observational and theoretical astrophysics. Facilities available to the faculty include departmental shops, UCSB fabrication laboratories, and the Keck and Lick Observatories. The research environment is enhanced by astrophysics programs at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) which attract top astrophysicists from around the world for extended periods, as well as postdoctoral researchers.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. and a strong research background in either experimental or observational astrophysics. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
