Attention: Space/Astro Faculty Search Committee
The Department of Physics at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has
an opening for a tenure-track faculty position. We expect to hire at the
Assistant Professor level, although individuals with appropriate qualifications
may be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level. We are
primarily seeking an experimentalist with research experience in the fields of
astronomy, solar physics or space plasma physics. The successful candidate will
be expected to teach at all levels in a comprehensive physics curriculum, to
conduct research supported by external funding and to advise and support
graduate students. Faculty in the Department of Physics graduate some 7-10 PhDs
each year and are engaged in a wide variety of research fields, involving
several million dollars of external research support. The Department has
outstanding laboratory and computational research facilities. (For further
information on the department, visit our website at www.uah.edu/physics.) The National Space
Science and Technology Center (NSSTC) - a coordinated research enterprise
involving UAH faculty, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center scientists and
engineers, and their contractors - is located on the UAH campus and offers
unique opportunities for collaborative research and for research start-up
resources for the successful candidate. UAH is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative
Action employer; applications from women and underrepresented minorities are
especially welcome. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a statement of
research purpose and goals, a statement on teaching philosophy, and arrange for
at least three reference letters to be sent to: Space/Astrophysics Faculty
Position Search Committee, at the above address. Priority will be given to
applications received prior to 15 December 2002, but applications will be
accepted until the position is filled.
