Rutgers University is a significant partner in SALT, an 11-meter spectroscopic telescope under construction in South Africa, and through this consortium has access to other telescopes both there and at McDonald Observatory. Current research interests at Rutgers include X-ray astrophysics, cosmology, dark matter, galaxy dynamics and evolution, globular clusters, and instrumentation. The present astronomy faculty are: P. Cote, L. Ferrarese, J. Hughes, C. Joseph, A. Kosowsky, T. Matilsky, D. Merritt, C. Pryor, J. Sellwood, and T. Williams. Interested persons should send a CV, brief statement of research interests, and the names of three people who can be contacted for letters of recommendation to the Department Chair, Professor Paul Leath, no later than 31 January 2003, though the shortlisting process will begin immediately.
