Attention: Prof. Paul Leath, Chair

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rutgers University is soliciting applications for a tenure-track astronomy faculty position. We are primarily seeking a junior-level appointment, but exceptionally strong candidates for a senior position will also be considered. We encourage applications from both observers and theorists in any area of astronomy. The appointee will be the strongest candidate whose research interests broaden, yet contact with, those of the current faculty group.

Rutgers University is a significant partner in SALT, an 11-meter spectroscopic telescope under construction in South Africa, and through this consortium has access to other telescopes both there and at McDonald Observatory. Current research interests at Rutgers include X-ray astrophysics, cosmology, dark matter, galaxy dynamics and evolution, globular clusters, and instrumentation. The present astronomy faculty are: P. Cote, L. Ferrarese, J. Hughes, C. Joseph, A. Kosowsky, T. Matilsky, D. Merritt, C. Pryor, J. Sellwood, and T. Williams. More information about astrophysics research and resources at Rutgers may be found at our web site (http://www.physics.rutgers.edu/ast).

Interested persons should send a CV, brief statement of research interests, and the names of three people who can be contacted for letters of recommendation to the Department Chair, Professor Paul Leath, no later than 31 January 2003, though the shortlisting process will begin immediately. Applications from women and members of minorities are particularly welcome.
