The Institute for Astronomy (IfA) at the University of Hawai`i invites
applications for a state-funded, tenure-track, faculty position. The appointment
will be made at the Assistant Astronomer level. The successful candidate is
expected to undertake a role in IfA activities related to the study of star and
planet formation. The University of Hawaii has 10-15% share of time on all
telescopes on Mauna Kea and others on Haleakala. These facilities include
optical, infrared, and submillimeter telescopes. Scientists at the IfA are
involved with instrumentation development and observational programs that use
these and other facilities to study the processes of star and planet formation.
The individual selected to fill the new position is expected to conduct and
coordinate a vigorous research program in the area of star and planet formation,
teach at least one undergraduate or graduate course per academic year, and
participate in the academic and scientific affairs of the IfA. Minimum
Qualifications: Ph.D. in astronomy or physics, and demonstrated research
excellence and teaching ability. The salary will be commensurate with
